A noteworthy review of Earth-Friendly Projects from School Library Connection on October 1, 2017

Cover: Build a Birdhouse

Elementary students will enjoy reading and constructing the environmentally friendly projects featured in this series of short, colorful chapter books. In Build a Weather Station, young investigators discover the variables weather forecasters use to measure and describe weather and the instruments used to record conditions. Subsequent chapters discuss reasons why people need to know about changes in weather conditions, describe the job of meteorologists, and provide lists of materials needed to construct a weather station complete with wind vane, anemometer, barometer, and rain gauge. Simple step-by-step instructions outline the process of making each device, and illustrations and diagrams highlight the directions. This project will enable young scientists to begin measuring climate conditions themselves and make weather science a hands-on learning experience. While this project is easy for students to construct themselves, some of the other projects in the series will need adult assistance. This series is an excellent addition to school libraries where STEM is a curriculum focus. Glossary. Index. Websites.
