Editorial Review

A noteworthy review of A Proud Heritage: The Hispanic Library from School Library Journal on September 1, 2003

Cover: Cinco de Mayo: A Mexican Holiday about Unity and Pride

These large-font, easy-to-read texts are illustrated with lots of color photographs. Latinos includes historical narratives and an overview of the largest Hispanic populations—Cubans, Mexicans, and Puerto Ricans. One chapter introduces famous Hispanic Americans from different fields. Though not enough information is given for reports, a brief synopsis on immigrants from the Dominican Republic and Central and South America is provided. Cinco do Mayo discusses the meaning, history, and ways to celebrate this significant Mexican holiday. Simple recipes and flower-making crafts are included. These well-designed books will help to meet the increasingly high demand for information on Latino history and culture.
