Editorial Review

A noteworthy review of Machines at Work from School Library Journal on August 1, 2007

Cover: Rescue Helicopters

These books are ideal for beginning readers or for high interest/low reading level needs. Each one covers the basic functions and parts of the machines in question. Explanations are given in the simplest terms, for example: ‘Sometimes cars and trucks get in crashes. Sometimes they break down and will not run. Tow trucks take cars and trucks to places where people can fix them.’ Crisp, full-color photos with informative captions cover one half of each spread, with the remaining page dedicated to simple text with excellent use of white space. Labels and insets appear where appropriate to clarify information in the pictures.
