A noteworthy review of Learning Sight Words from Children's Bookwatch on June 1, 2020

The Child’s World is an independent, family-owned company that has been publishing books for schools and libraries since 1968. The goal of The Child’s World is simple — they want all young children to enjoy reading educational books. To bolster and reinforce basic literacy they have launched a new series for aspiring young readers in Grade 1. ‘Learning Sight Words’ (12 Book Set, 9781503845268, HC, $227.40, 24pp) features those words which cannot be sounded out but must be memorized. Using fun stories. each page repeats sight words from Dolch sight word lists. Bright pictures help with visual cues and additional features include a word list, an introduction to the author, and a note to teachers and caregivers. Thoroughly ‘kid friendly’ in organization and presentation, and unreservedly recommended for elementary school collections, the Learning Sight Words series is comprised of At A Party; The Good Farmer; Her Pretty Garden; Here Comes Snow; I See Yellow; Little Dog; My House; One Day In School; Our New Boat; Red Bird; This Morning; We Play. It should be noted for home schooling parents that the individual titles comprising the ‘Learning Sight Words’ series are also available individually ($18.95 each).
