Editorial Review

A noteworthy review of The Child's World Encyclopedia of the NFL from School Library Journal on December 1, 2007

Cover: Volume 1: Aikman, Troy to Guard

Glossy color photos of players past and present accompany brief, alphabetically arranged entries on the League’s history, social issues, and icons, as well as the technical aspects of the sport. Each team is covered on a spread, while most other entries are limited to a page or less. Thus, students looking for more substantial research will have to search elsewhere. The books do well, however, in exploring the history of the sport and the people who helped make it a national obsession. Both fans and newcomers are sure to appreciate the accessible text and plentiful pictures. A list of top 10 players in statistical categories and a thorough index are appended. This will be a popular resource, even in collections already owning the ‘Inside the NFL’ series (The Child’s World).
