A bullet-pointed summary precedes the main text, making it easy for readers to follow the trajectory of groundbreaking invention, which is comprised of the internal combustion engine, electric starters for the engine (as opposed to hand cranks), three-point seat belts, anti-lock brakes, electric vehicles, and self-driving cars. Smoothly written text imparts information about the starting point of each invention and how it developed and became widely adopted by manufacturers. While the illustrations are primarily crisp, modern photos, a few archival images are also employed—the nineteenth-century ‘Hippomobile’ being particularly memorable.
