From the new Big Machines at Work Series, these books present young children with information about trucks, illustrated with color photographs. Each volume includes a long section called ‘On the Job’ showing the vehicle at work, followed by ‘Climb Aboard!’ a double-page spread showing the driver’s cab, and ‘Up Close,’ a spread with labeled photos of the truck’s main parts. A glossary concludes each book. Dump Trucks features a truck doing its job at a construction site. Forklifts shows that vehicle in operation at a lumber yard. The main draw for this series is the combination of large, clear pictures and short, simple text. Good, basic fare for young truck lovers. See this issue’s Series Roundup for other titles.
