‘There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, learning from failure,’ a quote from General Colin Powell. Clearly this imposing General has walked the walk! Powell’s parents were immigrants from Jamaica. Always interested in education, they were determined their daughter and son acquire one. It was not until Powell entered college that he really took off, rising from cadet, to the first four star African American General. Now retired, this family oriented man wants to be a role model for others. He is very active in promoting a successful environment for children. The sepia photographs of the past, and the more curent photographs, add to this study of Powell’s struggles and accomplishments.
