Review

A noteworthy review of Gross Jobs from School Library Connection on November 1, 2015

Cover: Bug Exterminator

Initial chapters in each book define what the job does, including a day-in-the-life description. Discussion follows as to why the job is important, and a closing chapter addresses problems and controversies that face the profession. The layout is consistent, with fun fact call-outs; they include enticing tidbits such as smart bed bugs, snakes in the sewer, and what a large animal vet might do at the back end of his patient. The call-outs also mention use of current technology. Photos are relevant, but aren’t quite gross enough to truly bring the realities of the job to the reader. The series is an excellent supplement to career fairs and research. For an older audience that just can’t get enough, try The Big Book of Gross Stuff by Bart King (Gibbs Smith, 2010). Glossary. Index.
