A noteworthy review of StateBasics from Library Media Connection on March 1, 2011
This high quality, visually brilliant new series provides primary readers with a comprehensive overview of the fifty states, plus Puerto Rico and Washington D.C. Although the books have different authors, each has the same chapter headings, layout and factual format, and is written in the same straightforward style, with stock photography and historical woodcuts. Beginning with a state map, each book covers geography, cities, land, plants and animals, people and work, history, ways of life, famous people and places, and state symbols. Although most of the famous people covered are from contemporary pop culture and may eventually date the series, the bulk of each book is relatively timeless and is well worth the investment.
