A noteworthy review of Laughing Matters from School Library Journal on May 1, 2007

These books are fun for the whole family, but especially beginning readers. They are designed not only to encourage children to read, but also to build confidence as they share the material with their friends. Rosenberg has clearly been listening in school yards or on the playgrounds to find all these great groaners. Baseball Jokes asks, ‘What does an umpire do before he eats? He brushes off the plate!’ Bug Jokes queries, ‘Who can leap tall poodles in a single bound? Super Flea!’ And there are lots more jokes where those came from. Girouard’s illustrations feature silly cartoon characters in bright colors, all placed in an eye-catching layout that often has as many as six jokes on a vividly colored background.

Author: Pam Rosenberg

Pam Rosenberg is a former junior high school teacher and corporate trainer. She currently works as an author and editor of children's books. She has always loved reading and feels very fortunate to be doing work that requires her to read all the time. When she isn't writing or editing books, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, and reading just for fun.

Illustrator: Patrick Girouard

Patrick Girouard has been illustrating books for almost 15 years but still looks remarkably lifelike. He loves reading, movies, coffee, robots, a beautiful red-haired lady named Rita, and especially his sons, Marc and Max. Here's an interesting fact: A dog named Sam lives under his drawing board. You can visit him (Patrick, not Sam) at www.pgirouard.com.
