A noteworthy review of Eyewitness to World War I from School Library Connection on August 1, 2018
Each of the titles in this series is an introduction to a specific topic concerning World War I for students. The series covers a wide range of subjects and is filled with black-and-white period photographs as well as images from prints and magazines. Each book follows the same format, beginning with a ‘Fast Facts’ section that provides a brief summary, followed by five short chapters, and concluding with a ‘Think About It’ section which provides questions to spur the reader to more deeply examine what they have just read. Also included are source notes, a ‘To Learn More’ section, and a link to the publisher’s website. Each book features sidebar quotations from relevant people who belonged to the specific era. While glossary terms are highlighted in each book, the color is a light grey and is easily missed when reading. This series would be useful for initial research or for further information than what is included in textbooks. Libraries would benefit from either the entire series or from the titles that cover specific topics where information is otherwise lacking. Bibliography. Glossary. Index.
