A noteworthy review of Insider's Guide to Pro Basketball from Booklist on October 1, 2019
From the Insider’s Guide to Pro Basketball series (30 titles), this volume spotlights the Denver Nuggets, an NBA basketball team since 1976. The topics discussed include the team’s history, arena, mascot, uniforms, and notable players (past and present) and their stats as of the 2018—19 season. The chapters are short (one to three pages), and each page offering a paragraph of text faces a colorful full-page illustration. Though Kelley finds plenty of interesting things to say about the team and its players, the repeated subject-verb sentence structure become monotonous, particularly because the sentences are kept short for young readers. Fortunately, the excellent photos, including many action shots on the court, bring a great deal of color and energy to the presentation. An attractive book for young basketball fans, particularly those in Colorado.
