A Review of "Step-By-Step Experiments" in Library Media Connection
Reviewed on 1 October 2012
Elementary student will enjoy this series as it is packed with fun and easy experiments. Each volume introduces a seven step scientific method: research, question, guess, gather, experiment, review, and conclusion. Students can then engage the method through four easy-to-complete science experiments. Each experiment provides clear, simple directions and guides the student’s inquiry and observation. This series does an outstanding job of preparing students for more advanced experimental projects. The combination of photographs and drawings is both appealing and useful. Teachers will use this series in the classroom, but it is well-suited to independent use as well. Glossary. Index.
A Review of "Step-By-Step Experiments" in Children's Bookwatch
Reviewed on 1 May 2012
A premier publisher of non-fiction ‘books in series’ specifically designed for school libraries and classrooms, one of the newest twelve volume sets and enthusiastically recommended is The Child’s World series ‘Step-By-Step Experiments’ and provides young readers in grads 1 through 4 with simple but effective introductions to the scientific process. A specific volume addresses electricity, insects, life cycles, light and vision, magnets, matter, plants, simple machines, soils, sound, taste and digestion, and the water cycle. Each individual 32-page book includes a profusion of colorful photography and instructive illustrations perfectly coordinated with an informative and ‘student friendly’ text. Each book comes with a reinforced library binding and is enhanced with the inclusion of a table of contents, a glossary of key words and phrases, sources for further research (including thematically relevant web sites), and a comprehensive index. Although each individual titles is available separately ($28.50 List / $19.95 Library), school and community libraries are well advised to achieve a significant cost savings by obtaining the twelve volume ‘Step-By-Step Experiments’ set (9781609734798) in its entirety ($342.00 List / $239.40 Library). Incidentally, ‘Step-By-Step Experiments’ is ideal as a home schooling curriculum supplement!
